Affordable Housing

Housing prices in Hawaii are among the highest in the nation. We need to enter into more public-private partnerships and subsidies to increase the housing supply. We need to provide tax credits, favorable financing and other incentives to encourage private developers to build affordable housing. Landlords should also be given incentives to expand the affordable rental market. This will create better-funded maintenance programs, more efficient management, and redevelopment that would create communities with excellent living conditions. We need to allow families to keep more of their money to supplement their standard of living.
